More Regional Airline Safety Concerns: ASA Grounds 60 Jets for Inspections

More problems in the regional airline industry.

Atlanta-based Atlantic Southeast Airlines grounded 60 of its 112 Bombardier CRJ200 regional jets for inspections after an audit indicated that some engine inspections were missed.

ASA, which operates as a regional-jet contractor for Delta Air Lines, is owned by SkyWest, which purchased the carrier from Delta in 2005. ASA's fleet consists of 112 of the older 50-seat CRJ200s, plus 38 newer-model 70-seat CRJ700s and two 76-seat CRJ900s.

The ASA Web site is conspicuously missing any notice of this situation today. In a statement, ASA said it expected to get its grounded planes flying again within 36 hours.
