The Rolling Coup d'Etat

I think Jonathan Chait has it about right in this analysis of the latest ugly Washington showdown, which he refers to as a kind of "soft impeachment." I'd sharpen that point and call it the continuation of a rolling coup d'etat, a treacherous but well-planned strategy to undermine -- small-d/cap-D, take your pick -- democratic government that was first manifest large with the outrageous impeachment of Clinton and the theft of the 2000 presidential election. But it actually started with Nixon and Agnew.
